Following the May meeting in Rome between Minister Bernini and Uzbek Foreign Minister Saidov, Italy and Uzbekistan take another step towards strengthening scientific and academic collaboration, with the arrival of Bernini and a delegation of Italian universities in Tashkent.
In fact, the First Uzbekistan-Italy Educational Forum is currently taking place (from September 24th to 27th), with a rich participation of Italian rectors from 22 universities – coordinated by CRUI – and will be held in the cities of Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand. The main objectives of the Forum are to enhance exchanges with Uzbekistan’s academic system, which is growing rapidly and is oriented towards research and innovation, as well as to deepen the relationships between Italian and Uzbek universities.
The event was opened by Anna Maria Bernini, Italy’s Minister of University and Research, and her Uzbek counterpart, Minister Kongratbay Sharipov, at the Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, where the new Italian-Uzbek School of Advanced Engineering was also inaugurated. Funded by the ICE Agency, the new TPTU building is equipped with Italian machinery, positioning itself as a project with significant strategic potential. The inauguration of the school is part of the government’s strongly supported plan for the internationalization of Italian universities and the strengthening of ties between the Italian and Uzbek industrial systems.
Bernini’s presence at these meetings marks an important step forward in bilateral relations, as it is the first official visit by an Italian Minister of Education to Uzbekistan since its independence in 1991. The Forum, the opening of the School at TPTU, as well as the agreements that will result from the visit, are part of a broader plan for the increasing internationalization of Italian universities, in the context of a strong intensification of Italy-Uzbekistan relations.
