Lecco, March 17, 2025 – The Lecco headquarters of the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce hosted the meeting “Uzbekistan: Opportunities for Italian Companies,” organized in collaboration with the Italy-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce to explore new opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries.
H.E. Abat Fayzullaev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Italy, attended the meeting, accompanied by Burkhonilla Khamidullaev, Economic and Trade Cooperation Advisor. During their speeches, they outlined the development strategies of the Asian country, with particular attention to natural resources and the textile, chemical, and agri-food sectors. They also highlighted opportunities for Italian companies interested in investing or collaborating with Uzbek partners.
The event opened with institutional greetings from Ezio Vergani, President of the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce, and Giorgio Veronesi, President of the Italy-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, who presented CIUZ’s activities and the main sectors of interest for Italian companies in Uzbekistan. Following this, some businesses shared their successful experiences in the country: Toscana Nastri, with an intervention by Dario Barducci, Foreign Sales Director, recounted the company’s twenty-year experience in Uzbekistan in the industrial taping sector; Cotonella, represented by General Director Renato Spagnolo, illustrated the company’s project in Uzbekistan and emerging opportunities in the textile sector.
The meeting represented an important opportunity for dialogue. Numerous companies from various sectors participated with interest, confirming the growing attention toward a rapidly expanding market.
“Ambassador Abat Fayzullaev is a profound expert in economic diplomacy and is distinguished by his keen engagement with local businesses,” emphasized Ezio Vergani, President of the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce. “During his visit, we discussed collaboration opportunities between Italy and Uzbekistan, a country I know well from my own entrepreneurial experience. The country is undergoing strong growth, with policies opening up to foreign investment and a focus on key sectors such as manufacturing, textiles, and design, where Italian companies can make a difference,” he added.
“Together with Giorgio Veronesi of CIUZ, we identified several areas to strengthen economic synergies and initiated a concrete dialogue on targeted initiatives. I strongly believe that strengthening relations between Italian and Uzbek companies can generate new growth opportunities for both countries,” Vergani concluded, reaffirming the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to supporting these strategic collaborations.
The event was also attended by representatives of local and regional institutions, demonstrating the strong support of the territory for the development of international economic relations.
